Indigenous Language and the Teaching of Hausa Language in Cairo University The Way Forward
Abstract
From time immemorial, indigenous language has played a significant role in the transmission of knowledge as it is through this, an individual learn first lessons about life generally. Be it in formal or informal setup, indigenous language has contributed tremendously in the field of education and is still very relevant.
Experiences have shown that people do think and even dream in their own language. This paper describes the importance of indigenous language in learning and teaching of Hausa language in Cairo University. The pnigaper focuses mainly on the teaching and learning of Hausa language at PhD level. It also discussed the achievements made so far, and suggestions were made in order to move the activities of the program forward
